Wyboston Lakes Resort

My couple of days at Wyboston Lakes Resort was a truly fantastic experience. Not only is it brimming with lots of different conference options but it also has that little bit extra. Maybe comes in the form of amazing service levels and super-friendly staff or maybe it’s the fabulous RIDE activity centre, the amazing Health & Leisure Club or the wonderful Y Spa experience. And then when you factor in the total refurb of the new Woodlands Event Centre, this hotel complex should definitely be on your options every time when looking for a venue in this part of the UK. I can’t wait to get back there with a conference!

This fabulous healthcare compliant resort boasts masses of conference options. It has two completely self-contained conference centres, each with it’s own bedrooms (in fact – the Executive Centre is in the middle of a total refurb and expansion!!), and a fantastic leisure hotel with knockout facilities including the amazing Y-Spa, golf course, swimming pool and gym. Oh, and did I mention the fabulous RIDE Leisure outdoor activities centre on site? There truly is something for everyone here. Wow!

As you drive up the long driveway to Wyboston Lakes Resort, you really get to appreciate just how big the place is. You initially pass the entrance to the onsite activities centre - RIDE (more of that later) and then you see the self-contained Executive centre – which is soon to be renamed: The Woodlands Event Centre – with its 120 bedrooms (inc 60 twin rooms), fab new meeting spaces (including the new Rosewood Suite that will be able to host 300 pax), Italian inspired Olive restaurant and a high street style coffee shop.

You then drive past the golf course and the Health & Leisure Club (with gym and swimming pool) before reaching the lovely Waterfront Hotel and gorgeous Y Spa. Beyond this is the Training Centre, (soon to be renamed: The Willows Training Centre) with its 183 bedrooms and even more meeting rooms - wow! To give you some more detail, I'll cover each part separately, starting with the Executive Centre.

The Woodlands Event Centre (previously: Executive Centre)
This self-contained conference centre will be an amazing place to hold your meeting – currently in the middle of a complete refurb of all of the bedrooms, the venue will soon be starting an expansion of its largest conference room, the soon to be titled Rosewood Suite - which will increase in size from 130 to 300 pax in cabaret style. The plans look absolutely amazing with super high finish levels and it will include hi spec AV / technology options in all rooms, super-fast wi-fi, the Italian inspired ‘Olive Restaurant’, as well as its very own coffee shop, which will be just like one of the high street branches expect everything is included in your DDR here - how fantastic is that? The Rosewood Suite is set to be ready by the middle of September 2018 and the whole centre completely finished by the end of March 2019.

Meeting Rooms: 16
Biggest room: The Rosewood Suite which can hold 300 pax

The Willows Training Centre (Previously: The Training Centre)
Situated just past The Waterfront hotel is the Training Centre with its 183 bedrooms and 18 meeting rooms including the fab Wiilows Suite which can hold 260 in theatre style and 160 in cabaret. There is also a large restaurant here which has up to 200 covers and can cater for everyone here on your conference.

The Waterfront Hotel
We stayed here during our stay and had a great time. Situated on the edge of the Lake, this 4 star property was really nice. Home to 103 bedrooms and the fabulous Y Spa and Waterfront Brasserie & Bar - it was a totally relaxing place to be. From our really warm welcome by the front desk team right through to the waiting staff in the Brasserie, it is clear to see that service levels are extremely high here too.

RIDE Leisure
Nestled on one side of the Wyboston Lakes Resort is RIDE Leisure where you can experience the thrill of water and land based activities such as piloting a hovercraft, riding a Jet Ski, wakeboarding, water skiing, 4 x 4 off-roading and much more. Check them out here: www.rideleisure.co.uk

Masses of free parking throughout the whole complex - we are talking hundreds of spaces. All totally free too.<>

Coach / Bus Pick-up Location at hotel: Depending on which building you are based this wouldn't be a problem - lots of space and in its own grounds, this is really straightforward.

Number of bedrooms: 406 in total
The Woodlands Event Centre: 120
The Willows Training Centre: 183
Waterfront Hotel: 103

Bedrooms: The bedrooms are really nice in all parts of the hotel - all include fab bathrooms (all have recently been refurbished), large flatscreen TVs and everything you need. I also liked that all the buildings are only two floors (ground and first) so not too far to walk and waiting round for lifts etc.

Number of floors:
2
Business centre: Each of the Woodlands Event Centre, Willows Training Ventre and the Waterfront Hotel has its own reception desk that can carry out any requests you might have - printing etc.
Wi-fi: Yes, was excellent and free throughout the complex

Fitness gym / pool: Yes, the excellent Health & Leisure Club gym which I visited during my stay - open to guests and its own private members there was a nice atmosphere in there - lots of options: free weights, cardio machines, resistance machines etc. This was a real working gym and not just a couple of weights and a treadmill - loved it.
Also - within the Health & Leisure Club there is a fab 12m pool complete with it’s own sauna and steam room.

Spa:
The glorious Y Spa itself located in the hotel, is hosted by well-trained therapists offering the latest in holistic and beauty therapy and is home to eleven treatment rooms, a Hydrotherapy Pool, Thermal Spa and two dedicated relaxation areas making it the perfect place to unwind. The thermal spa experience was amazing and included:

  • Some Like It Hot! - Kelo Sauna
  • Softy - Moderate Sauna
  • Salty - Salt Steam Room
  • Steamy - Steam Room
  • Experience Showers
  • Mist Showers
  • Glacier Showers
  • Frost Wall

We were lucky enough to spend a couple of hours in there and it was amazing – certainly one of the nicest spas I’ve ever visited. Check it out here: www.yspa.co.uk

RESTAURANTS & BARS
There is a fab bar in each of the three buildings, so you could stay within your own property or visit one of the others. The jewel in the crown is the excellent Waterfront Bar & Brasserie in The Waterfront Hotel. Sitting on the edge of the lake, it was fantastic to have your meal there with views of the golf course as well. What I really liked was the atmosphere in there - a really nice buzz - totally friendly and relaxed. And the food was amazing – my steak was perfect!

There are simply masses of conference rooms options here at Wyboston Lakes – of all shapes and sizes too.

There will be 14 brand new meeting rooms in the Woodlands Event Centre, once the refurb is complete including the fantastic Rosewood Suite and there are 14 training rooms and 21 syndicates in the Willows Training Centre. The largest of which is the fantastic Willows Conference Room on the 1st floor which can host 260 in theatre style – I’ll cover both of these rooms in more detail below.

The Rosewood Suite
The Woodlands Event Centre will be home to the massive Rosewood Suite which is perfect for holding large conferences, dinners, product launches and pretty much anything you can think of too. Not only is this room being refurbed but the whole centre so that will include fantastic lunch option and it’s own dedicated coffee shop. Definitely one to check out
