This 4-star city centre hotel boasts a contemporary design and has a sleek modern feel about it throughout. With a gorgeous gym, spa and pool to compliment the fabulous restaurant, bar and meeting spaces, including the 700 person Calon Suite, this hotel has many redeeming features. Situated right in the centre of Cardiff and only 2 hours by train from London is the fabulous Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel & Spa. Originally built as an office block, it became the a hotel with another brand in 2004 before being sold to AccorHotels to operate under the Mercure brand in 2007. This 4-star city centre hotel boasts a contemporary design and has a sleek modern feel about it throughout.

From the moment you walk up the steps and enter the building you realise that you are not in a traditional hotel. The lobby is modern, but with a relaxed air about it, where you are immediately set at ease and made to feel very welcome with the reception team based behind a cool and funky check-in desk. From here, you can either access the bedrooms, the luxurious spa/gym/swimming pool area or move onto the huge Calon Suite – but more on that later.

Parking:
There are 70 chargeable spaces available under the hotel. Rates are £5 per day or £14 for 24hours.

Coach / Bus Pick-up Location at hotel:
Coaches can pull up in the lay by outside, whilst there is the Sophia Gardens Coach Park nearby for coaches to wait.

Bedrooms: There are 5 types of rooms available including the classic double, Superior, Privilege, Triple and Deluxe Suite. Accommodation on the 15th floor has recently undergone refurbishment and are in line with the hotels 4-star standards, with the Superior, Privilege and Suites having incredible panoramic views over Cardiff. Air-conditioning, Wi-fi and satellite TV come as standard, with the Privilege rooms also having Nespresso coffee machines. We really enjoyed our stay – the room was super modern and had a fab contemporary feel about with a really nice walk-in shower in the bathroom too.

Business centre: No, but reception is more than happy to print or photocopy anything that you require, at a small fee.

Wi-fi: All free and was very fast.

Fitness gym: Yes, the extensive gym comes fully equipped with everything you might need to stay in shape including: free-weights, cable machines, multigyms and a range of cardio machines. The gym had outside guests too, but it was fairly quiet during our visit.

Spa & Swimming Pool:
There is a 16-metre swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi – all super modern and really nice places to spend some time. There is also a wide range of treatments and a great selection of packages on offer too.

RESTAURANTS & BARS
The 1st floor Urban Bar & Kitchen, is where you go to enjoy great food from a selection of irresistible modern cuisine. And with 100 covers, the restaurant is perfectly sized too. Semi-private booths, tables and sofas are conveniently located around the central circular bar, where you can soak up the stylish ambiance over an after-meal drink.

A lovely large open space with natural light, this maritime-themed area was designed to reflect Cardiff’s rich maritime history and quickly became our favourite place in the hotel. Without doubt your delegates will love it here as well!

MEETING / CONFERENCE ROOMS
With 15 air-conditioned, flexible meeting rooms and capacity to host up to 700 people at a single event, the hotel is Cardiff’s largest hotel-based conference and banqueting venue. Spread over the ground, 2nd and 3rd floors, these superbly designed, contemporary spaces have everything you need.

Calon is the Welsh term for ‘heart’ and it is therefore appropriate that it is the name of largest room in the hotel - able to hold up to 700 in theatre style. The other largest spaces include the Brecon and Caernarfon rooms, that can also hold between 100 and 200 people each. The remaining 10 rooms are superbly flexible spaces that would work perfectly as boardrooms/breakout rooms for smaller events or banquets.

Access for AV suppliers is made easy by way of a separate service lift that is available for any large equipment. With all this flexibility and with dedicated meeting planners on hand to help organise every aspect of your day, you can rest assured that your events will run to perfection.

Calon Suite
The largest space in the hotel and with a super high ceiling, the Celtic-themed Calon Suite is also one of the most flexible meeting rooms in the hotel. Able to be split into 2 spaces and with a balcony that would be ideal for DJ’s or photography, this space would be fantastic for large conferences, weddings or award ceremonies. As you can even get a car in the room it would be perfect for car launches too! With its own reception area, featuring a sophisticated private bar and lounge, as well as a separate entrance that leads onto the street, the Calon is simply a superb place for any event – especially large conferences, awards, gala dinners etc.

Caernarfon Suite
Situated on the 1st floor, the Caernarfon Suite is the 2nd largest space in the hotel. The room benefits from loads of natural light and an inbuilt bar. This space can hold 200 in theatre or 160 in banquet style and would be great for small conferences, dinners exhibitions or Christmas parties.

Portmeirion Suite
At 35m2, the Portmeirion Suite is one of the smallest meeting spaces in the hotel. That said, with a sharing breakout space available with comfortable sofas, it is perfect for more those intimate meetings and can comfortably accommodate up to 12 people in boardroom style.
