Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour

With its iconic design and waterfront location, this venue immediately sets itself apart from the local competition. Once you combine this with fantastic (soon to be refurbished) bedrooms, the Marco Pierre White restaurant and 13 flexible meeting rooms then the result is a hotel that is not only head and shoulders above the rest in the area, but one that has a huge wow factor as well. And that is even before the extensive refurbishment is completed - wow! One thing is for sure, we can’t wait to come back again.

Situated right on the waterfront and overlooking the huge cruise liners that come into port is the Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour. With 173 spacious bedrooms, 13 flexible meeting rooms, welcoming staff and superb facilities, this 4-star venue is the ideal choice for any sized event. What’s more however, is that the striking design of this building with its huge glass triangular façade means that it is far more that just a fantastic hotel; indeed, it has become an iconic landmark as well.

Official star rating: 4-star

Built 25 years ago, but owned and operated by Leonardo’s since early 2019, this 4-star hotel is perfectly located on the Southampton waterfront. With its terraced balconies and glass pyramid like atrium, the eye-catching exterior is of singular design and is without doubt a stunning building.

Entering the huge lobby, you immediately sense that this is a very grand hotel. You will be disappointed however if you expect any stuffiness from their staff, as we found them to be incredibly welcoming and friendly. From reception, the hotel’s largest meeting room is to your left, whilst on the right, is the Marco Pierre White restaurant, pool and Royal Bar located in the stunning glass atrium, all just a few footsteps away from the main entrance.

Impressive as the hotel is, it promises to be even more so in the very near future due to an extensive refurbishment that was underway during our stay. By March 2020, it should all be completed, with not only the bedrooms and bar being revamped and refreshed, but the reception area too. It promises to be amazing!

Parking: There are 179 car parking spaces available with complimentary parking for conference guests.

Coach / Bus Pick-up Location at hotel: Coaches can pull up directly outside and wait if required.

Number of bedrooms:
173

Bedrooms:
There are a mix of Standard, Superior and Executive rooms as well Junior Suites and a Penthouse Suite. All of the rooms are very spacious, with many of them being refurbished at the moment, as mentioned above. That said, we stayed in one of the recently renovated rooms and it was very, very nice. Wonderfully contemporary and super comfy, it was a lovely room where we had a great night’s sleep in one of their, ‘Dream Beds’. It truly will be fantastic place to stay.

Number of floors: 5 floors

Business centre: No, but staff can help with any printing required.

Wi-fi: Newly updated, complimentary and very fast

Fitness gym: The gym is located on the 1st floor and overlooks the waterfront. It comes equipped with a great selection of cardio machines and weights, far more than what you would usually expect in a hotel. We really liked this gym!

Spa & Swimming Pool: There is a lovely 15 metre pool available, along with a sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. This is another area of the hotel that will benefit from a refurbishment in the next few months and it is all set to be even more gorgeous when finished.

As well as the pool area and its facilities, there are a further 4 spa treatment rooms and a nail bar. Perfect for a bit of pampering.

RESTAURANTS & BARS

The Royal Bar and the Marco Pierre White are the two main restaurants here. Of the two, the former is a lovely bistro and bar that is situated in the main atrium, while the latter is a super bright steakhouse bar and grill with capacity for up to 150 covers.

During our stay, we ate in the Marco Pierre White and had a great time, enjoying a gorgeous meal. The high ceilings and glass walls create a really nice vibe. If you’re not careful however, hours can just slip away here as the time just seemed to fly by. Breakfast is also taken here, along with serving conference buffet lunches as well.

If you have the time, then make sure you head over to the Royal bar for a drink. The angled glass walls of the huge atrium are beautifully combined with lilac lighting in the evening, making this a great place to spend some time looking out over the waterfront.

MEETING / CONFERENCE ROOMS There are 13 fantastic meeting rooms here, with all of the rooms having natural light and state-of-the-art AV equipment. This venue will easily be able accommodate any event from a 10-person boardroom meeting up to a 500-person conference.

Of the 13 rooms available, all but one of them is located on the 1st floor, with the Mayflower Suite being located on the ground floor. A well thought out layout, makes moving between rooms easy, thereby allowing you to arrange separate breakout areas without the risk of losing some of your delegates! Which is always a good thing!

All of the meeting rooms are well styled and have superb flexibility (more on that in a minute), while the hotel’s dedicated Meetings team will ensure that your event runs smoothly.

Mayflower Suite

The Mayflower Suite is the largest room in the hotel and is able to accommodate up to 500 people in theatre style. This superb self-contained space has its own bar, cloakroom and private lounge that can be used pre-function or as a breakout room - everything you need for a seamless event.

A large, separate entrance with direct access to outside is available that would be ideal for getting a car inside, whilst a permanent lighting rig, along with a built-in screen and projector make this room ideal for a whole host of events including car launches.

The fact that this space can also be split into three separate rooms via partitions also gives the Mayflower Suite a huge amount of flexibility, allowing you to tailor the room to your individual needs. So, whether its large conferences, awards evenings, parties or dinners, the Mayflower is definitely worth checking out.

With loads of natural light and lovely views over the waterfront, the Mezzanine Suite would be an excellent choice for conferences or dinners.
