De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre & Orchard Hotel

This hotel and conference centre is truly amazing and I urge you to check it out at your earliest convenience. It quite simply wasn’t on my radar and in my opinion it really should be a venue you consider for meetings & conference in this region. It’s got the perfect blend of being a gorgeous contemporary hotel and superb, flexible meeting rooms of all sizes and configurations. If you want a proper banked seating theatre to present a product launch, you’ve got it. If you want a blank canvas to do a new car launch, that’s also available. Exhibition space – tick. Small boardrooms – tick. It’s really got the lot, and when you factor in the environmental credentials and fabulous staff, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

This award winning hotel and conference centre really is a hidden gem, set right in the middle of 330 acres of the University of Nottingham's landscaped parkland. Delivering conferences from 5 – 1,000 this contemporary venue is absolutely fantastic and I highly recommended that you have it on your radar. It’s that good.

First Impression

The first thing that strikes you as you drive up to the hotel is the gorgeous landscaped gardens of the University of Nottingham. Once through the two security barriers (providing fantastic security for high profile events) you approach the fabulously contemporary De Vere Orchard Hotel with the East Midlands Conference Centre just a few paces away.

To say this five years old hotel is a cutting-edge design is an understatement. I absolutely loved it – tons of glass everywhere! And not only that, it has won many green awards for its environmentally friendly approach – including 20 photovoltaic panels on each roof which harvest electricity which you can actually check out on a meter located in the library lounge directly behind reception. It is also worth pointing out that hotel also won Best Green / Sustainable Venue in the 2017 CHS Awards.

The contemporary feeling continues as you enter the hotel lobby which is super bright and has an amazing atrium. It would be an absolutely perfect place to locate your registration desk for a real wow factor as your delegates arrive. As well as some really nice armchairs and tables there's a really nice satellite working area behind reception complete with desks, charging / network points etc. Also can be used for a drinks reception, registration, semi private group breakfast, etc.

Parking: 300 places with an overflow space available too. There is no charge to park at the hotel. Note – also includes a charging point for an electric car.

Coach / Bus Pick-up location at hotel: For drop off or pick-up for external dinners etc – coaches can pull up directly outside the hotel reception. There are also dedicated coach parking bays too.

Bedrooms: They are either standard or executive, all of which were contemporary, stylish and just the right level of minimal. I must say that my room was very much to my taste. Spacious, lots of natural light, a good size desk with decent connections, really nice bathroom and a large wall mounted TV. Perfect.

Number of floors: Four

Wi-fi: Free throughout the hotel and conference centre. Excellent speeds of 90-100 Mbps of download speed too. Giving the opportunity to live stream event should you need to.

Fitness gym: Yes, a small gym in the hotel but also have access to the fitness suite at the University of Nottingham's amazing £40 million sports facility on site (2 mins walk) – David Ross Sports Centre.

Spa: No

Swimming Pool: Yes, at the University of Nottingham's facility on site (2 mins walk) - world class facilities there, definitely try to visit if you can

RESTAURANTS & BARS

The hotel has one main bar & restaurant called Bramleys Brasserie & Bar – situated just off the hotel lobby it is also the place where breakfast is taken. This large bright room has lots of natural light and is a really nice place to be and was developed with real love and attention – e.g. it was built on the site of an orchard so the wood from the trees in the orchard are used in the beams on the ceiling – love things like this. I had dinner there and it was amazing. Great service, excellent food with a wide range of option on the menu. Loved it.

This restaurant can also be used for your group's lunches and they can be seated in semi private sections.

East Midlands Conference Centre Meeting Rooms

All these meeting rooms are located in the conference centre which is 10 yards from the entrance to the hotel across a short walkway, so your group could easily use a combination of both sets of meeting rooms without them seeming like they are in separate places. Although if you do prefer, it also has it own main entrance with a large lobby area, perfect for your registration desk.

Like the Orchard Hotel meeting rooms, in each space, you’ll find smart intuitive technology with super fast Wi-Fi, plus a dedicated events team. It’s also worth pointing out that the venue has won awards - it was voted as Best Auditorium in the CHS 2017 Awards

Banqueting Suite

Situated on the ground floor this room was a fantastic space – a very flexible blank canvas, complete with the option for lots of staging, splitting into two (still large) rooms or even getting a car in for a launch or something similar. Perfect for large banqueting events, large conferences, car launches etc. Very high celling with lots of lighting options / opportunities. The venue also own a cherry picker for rigging etc. A great room – very flexible.

Located on the ground floor this theatre is another brilliant option that this fantastic venue has up its sleeve. It has tiered seating that can also be retracted away to give a lot of floor space should your meeting require it. There is also plenty of floor space in front of the tiered seats for additional seating, making it a very flexible space. It also has a very large screen making it ideal for things like product launches, seminars, etc
