For our latest ‘Getting To Know’ feature, we caught up with Kelly Taws – who has over fifteen years’ experience in the Event Industry and has been lucky enough to manage Live Events across the Globe. Kelly has managed a variety of events, from small incentives to International Conferences and many things in between.
Q: In a nutshell, tell us the about your services and the some of the industries you’ve freelanced for?
A: I have a wealth of experience with Pharma events, but have also managed a range of other clients. I have worked in Association Management and Live Events. I am happy to pick up pre-planned events for onsite delivery alone or as part of a wider team, or work on a project from concept to final budget reconciliation.
Q: How did you get started in the events industry?
A: I worked as a Regatta Assistant at the Henley Royal Regatta whilst at University. I spent two summers working in the Regatta HQ and moving onsite for the event itself. The days were long, but I loved every minute of it and knew this is what I wanted to do.
Q: Most memorable moment working as a freelancer?
A: I think that would have to be getting a group to the House of Commons on Brexit night. Timelines were tight and Parliament Square was busy to say the least. But I’ll always remember where I was that night. Then again, there was the time I spent a week in New York watching live penial surgery, that’s stayed with me too!
Q: Best location you’ve worked at?
A: This is a tough one. The DMC I worked with in Panama was fantastic and booked the best place for the group dinner. The clients face when they sat down to eat at the Panama Canal and a ship pulled up outside the window was amazing.
Q: If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself when you first started out in the events world?
A: Enjoy every minute of what you do. You never know when something will happen that will take it all away. Work hard, remember where you’ve been, make contacts, make friends and give it your all.
