HOTEL
First impression:
The hotel makes a really good impression on you as you drive towards it. There is no problem locating it as it’s very visible from the roundabout as you approach the Aztec West Business Park straight off the M4/M5 interchange. The hotel has a really nice entrance located in its own grounds – with lots of space to pull up in a car and unload your luggage before putting it in the secure car park. The grounds were very tidy and I absolutely loved the deck chairs outside the hotel on the grassed areas!

Parking: The hotel is located very close to the M4 / M5 junction and takes just a couple of minutes to arrive at the entrance once you leave the motorway. Cost to park here as a guest or delegate is £3.00 per day which is extremely reasonable.

Coach / Bus Pick-up Location at hotel: There is a designated space for coach pick-ups / drop-offs and is perfect as the hotel is in its own private grounds. Groups would wait in reception before walking to the coach only 20 yards away. Very straightforward.

Lobby: The reception desk is located to the left as you walk in and is really welcoming. From here, you can see through to the newly renovated bar area, and the corridor to the rest of the hotel. Although it isn’t a large area, it didn’t feel cramped at all and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful.

Bedrooms: It’s worth pointing out that the majority of bedrooms have been freshly renovated. I stayed in a signature room and it was spacious, contemporary and very tastefully decorated. The room had a large TV, large desk and a nice sofa to relax on. The bathroom was very nice too with a large standalone shower. To be honest the room was absolutely perfect and I really enjoyed my stay.

Number of bedrooms: 128 (including 4 suites) and there is a further 36 rooms at the hotel’s sister property (Lodge at Bristol) located 20 yards across the road

Number of floors: 3

Wi-fi: Yes, free wi-fi throughout the hotel and conference rooms, which worked really well

Business Centre: Yes

Fitness gym: Yes, the hotel has a fantastic gym – used by its own external membership as well as hotel guests. Lots of cardio equipment and free weights, including a separate studio with masses of equipment. It was really good – definitely one of the better gyms I’ve used in hotels over the years!

Spa: Yes, including jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Treatments were also available with 3 private treatment rooms. There was also a small lounge area for guests to relax.

Swimming Pool: Yes, a fab heated indoor pool which included the use of the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. This is a really lovely place to be and very relaxing, with lots of comfortable chairs in which to relax

RESTAURANTS & BARS
The bar in the hotel is situated on the ground floor next to reception and is really nice, benefitting from a recent refurbishment with plenty of different seating options. I was lucky enough to take lunch here and it was absolutely delicious, with very nice service too.

The Curious Kitchen is at the rear of the hotel and it was probably my favourite place in the hotel. Masses of natural light and a very high ceiling with gorgeous exposed beams, it had lots of different styles of tables – booths, long tables, high tables with stools etc., including seating outside for the summer months. A maximum of 120 covers was available in the restaurant and 40 outside on the terrace.

There was also a private dining room which can seat up to 38 diners in a hollow square configuration – it also had lots of natural daylight and was adjoined to a nice courtyard which could be used in nice weather conditions. This really would be a superb place to take your group as part of your meeting.

The Conference Café
This is a fantastic place for all delegates to use – think of it as a pre-function area with freshly brewed coffee, a multitude of biscuits, fruit and healthy snacks as well as popcorn, freshly squeezed smoothies and juices. I loved this concept and judging by the way it was being used during the review, the delegates seemed to love it too.

Meet In Pods
These semi-private areas offer flexible working space, or a place for a last minute meeting. They are cost effective and an innovative ‘halfway house’ between a traditional meeting room and a hotel lobby with on-tap refreshments of the Conference Cafe. I actually used one of these during my stay and loved this concept – I only wish more hotels had something like them.

MEETING ROOMS
The Aztec really comes into its own with its meeting spaces. This purpose built conference hotel has plenty of different options depending on the size of your meeting. From 220 to 4, there is a perfect space for you. Combining practical and stylish meeting rooms, you really can’t go wrong here.

The biggest room (The Cotswold Suite) has its own private entrance to the right of the main hotel entrance, where one of the hotel team would be located to point your delegates in the right direction for your conference. Great service and I think it’s always nice to be greeted on your arrival to any meeting.

These purpose fitted rooms convert from bedroom suites into unrecognisable and fantastic syndicate boardrooms. To be perfectly honest, these are the best example of this type of room I’ve seen to date. You need to trust me on this – I totally recommend these to use as small breakout rooms, interview style rooms and for small board meetings. All eight syndicate rooms are the same:

SUMMARY
For me, the Aztec Hotel & Spa is a fantastic conference hotel and it should definitely be in your first thoughts when you need a venue in this region. It has the perfect mixture of super flexible / functional meeting rooms, luxury (and comfortable) bedrooms, a fantastic restaurant and super gym and spa facilities. Add to this the super friendly expert staff (lead by the wonderful Jo Cook & the sales team) with fab service levels and you’ll understand what I’m talking about. Highly recommend a site inspection if you get the opportunity – I’m sure you’ll love it too. For further information please click here: https://www.aztechotelbristol.co.uk/meetings/
